Lacerta, (Latin: “Lizard”) constellation in the northern sky at about 22.5 hours right ascension and 45° north in declination. Its brightest star is Alpha Lacertae, with a magnitude of 3.8. BL Lacertae is the prototype of a class of quasars that are oriented such that their jets are aimed at Earth. Polish astronomer Johann Hevelius invented this constellation in 1687.
