Saint George’s Channel
waterway, Europe
Saint George’s Channel, wide passage extending for 100 miles (160 km) between the Irish Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a minimum width of 47 miles (76 km) between Carnsore Point (near Rosslare, Ire.) and historic St. David’s Head (Wales). The name derives from a late form of the legend of St. George, patron saint of England, which had him traveling to England by sea.
