San Felipe, city, central Chile. It lies on the Aconcagua River, at 2,087 feet (636 metres) above sea level.

Founded in 1740 as Villa de San Felipe el Real by José Antonio Manso de Velasco y Samaniego, it is the centre of an agricultural (alfalfa, grapes, fruits, vegetables, and cereals) and mining (copper and gold) area.

It is connected by railway with Valparaíso, 80 miles (130 km) southwest, and by rail and road with Santiago. A highway across the Andes Mountains to Mendoza, Argentina, makes San Felipe a major centre of trade between Chile and Argentina. Pop. (2002) 53,017; (2017) municipality, 76,844.
