Greenockite

greenockite, cadmium sulfide (CdS), the only mineral containing an appreciable amount of cadmium. It forms coatings on sphalerite and other zinc minerals. It forms yellow, orange, or deep red crystals that belong to the hexagonal system. Typical occurrences are Příbram, Czech Republic; Renfrew, Scot.; and Joplin, Mo., U.S. For detailed physical properties, see sulfide mineral (table).
