Hinthada, also called Henzada, town, southwestern Myanmar (Burma). Hinthada is situated along the Irrawaddy River opposite Tharrawaw, with which it is linked by ferry, at a point considered to be the head of the Irrawaddy’s delta. It is a port for the rice and tobacco grown in the surrounding agricultural area and is connected by road and rail with Bassein and Yangon (Rangoon). It is also the site of an electric power station and an airfield. The area east of the town is a low-lying region protected by embankments along the Irrawaddy and is the site of a major irrigation scheme. Pop. (2004 est.) 122,700.
