Krishnanagar, also called Krishnagar, city, west-central West Bengal state, northeastern India. It lies just south of the Jalangi River.
The city is a road and rail junction and the major agricultural distribution centre for the region. Sugar milling is the major industry. It is also the site of a hospital, a horticultural research station and jute nursery, and an agricultural training centre. Ghurni, a suburb, is famous for the manufacture of coloured clay figures. Krishnanagar was constituted a municipality in 1864. It contains the residence of the maharaja of Nadia and is a Christian evangelistic centre. A large fair is held there annually. Pop. (2001) 139,110; (2011) 153,062.
