lingonberry

lingonberry, (Vaccinium vitis-idaea), also called cowberry, foxberry, or rock cranberry, small creeping plant of the heath family (Ericaceae), related to the blueberry and cranberry. Lingonberry plants are found throughout the Northern Hemisphere in boreal forests and tundra regions. The red fruit is used for jelly and juice by northern Europeans and by Scandinavians in the United States and is important to native peoples in North America. The plants grow densely and, like cranberries, can be harvested by raking.
