Marchena, town, Sevilla provincia (province), in Andalusia comunidad autónoma (autonomous community), southwestern Spain. Located near the left bank of the Corbones River, it is a rail junction and a processing centre for local agricultural products (cereals, olives, cotton). Marchena was perhaps the Castra Gemina mentioned by the Roman writer Pliny the Elder. It was taken from the Moors by Ferdinand III in 1240. Notable attractions are its 15th-century palace of the dukes of Arcos and its church of San Juan, with an early 16th-century Flemish-style altarpiece. Pop. (2008 est.) 19,497.
