Ana Mendieta, in full Ana Maria Mendieta, (born November 18, 1948, Havana, Cuba—died September 8, 1985, New York, New York, U.S.), Cuban-born interdisciplinary artist who drew from feminism, ancient religions, sculpture, earth art, video, and performance to create what she termed “earth-body art.” The majority of her work was ephemeral but was often documented in both video and photographs.
