Nardò, Latin Neretum, town, Puglia (Apulia) regione, southeastern Italy, southwest of Lecce city. Originally the Roman city of Neretum, Nardò was both Byzantine and Norman; it has a 13th–14th-century cathedral in the Gothic style and an unusual circular chapel called the Osanna, dating from 1603. Examples of Baroque architecture in the town include the Church of San Domenico. Modern Nardò is an agricultural centre, trading in wheat, olive oil, and tobacco. Pop. (2006 est.) mun., 30,723.
