Greene, county, extreme southwestern Pennsylvania, U.S. It consists of a hilly region on the Allegheny Plateau bordered by West Virginia to the west and south, the Monongahela River to the east, Tenmile Creek to the northeast, and Enlow Fork to the northwest. Ryerson Station State Park surrounds a reservoir through which flows North Fork Dunkard Fork.

The county was formed in 1796 and named for Nathanael Greene, a general in the American Revolution. The county seat is Waynesburg. Other communities include Morrisville, Bobtown, and Carmichaels. Bituminous coal mining is the primary economic activity. Area 576 square miles (1,492 square km). Pop. (2000) 40,672; (2010) 38,686.
