Rūdnyy
Kazakhstan
Rūdnyy, also spelled Rudnyi, or Rudnyy, city, northern Kazakhstan. It lies on the Tobyl River. Rūdnyy, meaning “ore” in Russian, was founded in 1955 beside the huge ore-dressing combine, then under construction, which mines and processes the rich Sokolovka and Sarbay iron-ore deposits. A reservoir on the Tobyl supplies the city and combine with water. Electrified rail links join Rūdnyy with cities in the Urals. Pop. (2006 est.) 120,006.
