Serpens, (Latin: “Serpent”) the only constellation divided into two parts, Serpens Caput (Latin: “Head of the Serpent”) and Serpens Cauda (Latin: “Tail of the Serpent”). The two parts represent the serpent held by the constellation of Ophiuchus. Serpens Caput is located at about 16 hours right ascension and 10° north in declination; Serpens Cauda is at about 18 hours right ascension and 10° south in declination. Its brightest star is Unukalhai (from the Arabic for “the serpent’s neck”), with a magnitude of 2.7.
