Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesian Sulawesi Tenggara, propinsi (or provinsi; province), southeastern arm of the island of Celebes (Sulawesi), Indonesia. It is bounded by the provinces of South Sulawesi (Sulawesi Selatan) to the northwest and Central Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tengah) to the northeast, as well as by the Banda Sea to the east and south and the Gulf of Bone to the west. Its area includes the islands of Wowoni, Buton, Muna, and Kabaena and the Tukangbesi island group in the Flores and Banda seas. Kendari is the capital, located on the southeastern coast of mainland Southeast Sulawesi. Area 14,698 square miles (38,068 square km). Pop. (2010) 2,232,586.
