Sainte-Thérèse, city, Laurentides region, southern Quebec province, Canada. It lies along the Montreal-Laurentian Autoroute. The parish of Sainte-Thérèse, dating from 1789, and the community were named for Thérèse de Blainville, daughter of the seigneur who made the first land grants for it about 1730. In the workshop attached to the Sainte-Thérèse Seminary (1825), Joseph Casavant made his first pipe organs and founded a piano industry (1834–48). The city’s modern economy depends chiefly on the manufacture of automotive parts, farm machinery, furniture, plastics, and plywood. Inc. village, 1849; town, 1916; city, 1959. Pop.
