Ziegler, Karl
German chemist
Karl Ziegler, (born Nov. 26, 1898, Helsa, near Kassel, Ger.—died Aug. 12, 1973, Mülheim, W.Ger.), German chemist who shared the 1963 Nobel Prize for Chemistry with the Italian chemist Giulio Natta. Ziegler’s research with organometallic compounds made possible industrial production of high-quality polyethylene. Natta used Ziegler’s organometallic compounds to make commercially useful polypropylene.
